Reinhold Klotz
Reinhold Klotz (born March 13, 1807 in Stollberg near Chemnitz , † August 10, 1870 in Kleinzschocher near Leipzig ) was a German philologist and editor of numerous Latin editions.
Life
At the age of 19, Klotz began studying at the University of Leipzig in 1826 and was able to successfully complete this course in 1831 with a habilitation in classical philology . He stayed at the university and was appointed associate professor the following year . In the 1848 Revolution he took a strictly conservative stance. At the end of 1849, with the greatest resistance of his entire colleagues, he was appointed full professor to succeed Gottfried Hermann .
After his death in 1871 the university set up the subject of geography as an independent academic discipline and appointed Oscar Ferdinand Peschel to the new chair. Previously, geography was a sub-discipline of both classical philology and historical auxiliary sciences and was represented by Klotz and the historian Heinrich Wuttke .
