Matthaeus Devarius

Matthaeus Devarius (Italian Matteo Devaris, Greek Ματθαίος Δεβαρής, * around 1505 in Corfu ; † June 13, 1581 in Rome ) was a Greek philologist .

Devarius studied in Rome with Andreas Johannes Laskaris and eventually became librarian to Cardinal Niccolò Ridolfi and in 1541 corrector of the Greek manuscripts at the Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana . His main work is a study of the Greek particles first published in 1587 . He also created an index on the commentaries of Eustathios of Thessalonike on the Iliad and the Odyssey .
