G. Love & Special Sauce is based out of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania and was born in 1990 .

Career

The trio was formed in 1992 and is known for its uniquely easy- going blues sound, which combines classic R&B and rap.

The trio released their first album, the title of which is of the same name as the band, in 1994 on Okeh / Epic Records , a Sony Musics subsidiary . The album almost went gold with the single "Cold Beverage," which aired many times on MTV . The band took advantage of this success and began a far-reaching tour.

In 1995 they released their second album, "Coast to Coast Motel". While it didn't sell as well as the first album, many critics thought it was the better of the two released albums.

On the tour that followed, the band almost broke up because of a dispute over money. But the band then decided to take a break and the three members went their own way. They worked on different projects.

In October 1997 the band was reconciled and released the third album called Yeah, It's That Easy, which showed the members' own projects during the break. In addition, collaborations with other artists and bands (e.g. All Fellas Band , Philly Cartel , King's Court , and Dr. John ) could be heard for the first time on the album .

Shortly after the band returned to Philadelphia from a 1999 tour, they released their fourth album, "Philadelphonic". Electric Mile followed in 2001 , an album that showed the far-reaching influence of hip-hop , funk and blues and soul in equal measure. As always, an extensive tour followed.

In 2004 "The Hustle" was created. This album loosened up the style of G. Love and Special Sauce. It showed a strong change from the previous works. "The Hustle" was also the first album to be released on Jack Johnson 's Brushfire Records label. These have been good friends since Philadelphonic , where Jack Johnson made a guest appearance.

G. Love and Special Sauce toured with Jack Johnson and Donavon Frankenreiter in 2004 . The trio recorded a live EP.

In the summer of 2005, the band appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial with their own version of the Coca-Cola commercial song I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing .

The 2006 album Lemonade was u. A. influenced by reggae .
