Kandyse McClure
Kandyse McClure (born March 22, 1980 in Durban ; Republic of South Africa , born Candice McClure ) is a South African-Canadian actress .
Life
Kandyse McClure grew up in Durban and lives in Vancouver . After graduating from high school in 1999, she wanted to begin medical education. Until she finally made up her mind which direction her life should take, McClure worked as a temporary worker in Vancouver. She had never considered an acting career, although as a child she often danced, sang and dressed up for fun in her hometown of Durban. Her mother motivated her to audition for a play at the Vancouver International Fringe Festival ; her own motivation was to find some fun and variety between the two jobs as a waitress. McClure's role in Athol Fugards Valley Song - an 18-year-old South African girl named Veronica - seemed to correspond to her nature and her own experiences in South Africa, which is why she dared to participate in the demanding work of the South African writer despite a lack of acting experience. The theater production was a success and every performance sold out.
Movie and TV
Shortly after the performance of Athol Fugard's Valley Song , Kandyse McClure received a phone call from talent scout Richard Lucas. One of his long-time clients had seen her portrayal of Veronica and was so impressed that he urged Lucas to sign McClure. Although Lucas had doubts about her lack of acting training, he followed his instinct and became her agent. Within a very short time, she had her first audition for a supporting role alongside Lou Diamond Phillips in the American film In a Class of His Own (1999), a few months later a minor supporting role in Romeo Must Die (2000) with Isaiah Washington and Jet Li .
To make up for her lack of acting training, she took every opportunity to gain practical experience, and a few weeks later she played the lead role of Catherine Ann Cabot in the 22-part youth drama Higher Ground (2000) with Hayden Christensen . The persistently good reviews for her acting achievements supplanted the original intention of a medical career, and McClure wanted to be able to qualify for as many roles as possible. She also took courses at the Lyric School of Acting , David Rotenberg's Professional Actors Lab in Vancouver and The Larry Moss Studio in Los Angeles. McClure was quickly recognized as an extremely disciplined young talent who practiced tirelessly and took every opportunity to improve his acting. She is grateful to have been able to embody the roles of strong and intelligent women so far :
“For these, and all the other roles she has played, Kandyse is always grateful for her good fortunes as a working actor […] and feels honored that her work provides an opportunity to be a voice for strong, intelligent women in the world [ ...] and in the vast space beyond it [...] gratitude for a life of such serendipity . "
In quick succession, McClure received other offers, beginning in television series of the Fox Network, such as Da Vinci's Inquest (2000-2005), as a recurring character Elizabeth Munroe in Showtime's end-time series drama Jeremiah - Warriors of Thunder and as Annie Fisher in Dark Angel as well a leading role in the feature film Passion and Prejudice (2001) with Frances Fisher . The following year she starred in two thrillers: The Master Criminal with Rob Lowe and Sam Neill and LA Law - The Film . Her increasing popularity quickly led her to guest appearances on Outer Limits - The Unknown Dimension , Jake 2.0 , Twilight Zone , Andromeda and Smallville . For her portrayal of Sue Snell in the NBC - remake Carrie (2002) Stephen King novel adaptation she received consistently good reviews and praise.
In Battlestar Galactica , Kandyse McClure played Anastasia Dee Dualla (dubbed by Natascha Geisler ), a supporting role (co-star) in 63 of a total of 73 episodes from 2003 to 2009 . Her popularity within the series is demonstrated by a humorous caricature by comic artist Dylan Meconis (Battlestar Galacticsimpsons). In the cast of the original series Kampfstern Galactica (1978), the character she embodied was not intended. Mclure played the recurring character Cassidy in the ABC series Reaper - A Devilish Job in four episodes and appeared in a guest role in the Canadian television series Sanctuary - Guardians of the Creatures . The remake of Stephen King's Children of the Corn (Children of the Corn) received positive reviews. The ambitious feature film Broken Kingdom (working title: The Disposables and Los Desechables ), in which Kandyse McClure played a leading role alongside Rachael Leigh Cook and Seymour Cassel , was produced in Bogotá and Los Angeles . In the first season of the Netflix production Hemlock Grove , McClure was a regular.
