Hemlock Grove is an American television series that in the US from Netflix via streaming is broadcast. The series is based on Brian McGreevy's novel Hemlock Grove . All 13 episodes of the first season were released on April 19, 2013.
action
The plot of the series describes the development of the friendship between the vampire Roman Godfrey and the werewolf Peter Rumancek, its changeable course and later decay. At the same time, various other storylines are interwoven. In the three seasons, for example, the story of Roman's mother, the vampire Olivia Godfrey, is told, who in the first season is unknowingly infected with a cancer virus that was specially developed for vampires and is supposed to exterminate them. Furthermore Letha's daughter, who has supernatural powers and can kill people who want to harm her with her will. There is also a being called Omul Negru or Butzemann and in human form, the pediatrician Dr. Arnold Spivak, appears. He is described as the archenemy of the vampires.
season 1
Several girls are murdered in the small town of Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania , which is why the investigating sheriff is feverishly looking for the killer. In addition, rumors are spread that the gypsy Peter Rumancek, who had recently moved in with his mother, was a werewolf (named Vargulf in the series), which makes him one of the main suspects in the case when the girls were killed by an animal. Gradually he befriends Roman Godfrey, with whom he goes to school.
The Godfrey family are very wealthy and influential in Hemlock Grove, they own a research institute (the Tower) which is run by Dr. Johann Pryce conducts secret experiments, among other things. Since Olivia Godfrey is a widow, she runs the institute for her son Roman, but lets Dr. Pryce is free to do research and experimentation. Olivia's brother-in-law, the psychologist Dr. Norman Godfrey, with whom she is having an affair, distrusts the institute and believes that the murders committed in Hemlock Grove are related to the institute. When Norman's daughter Letha finds out that she is pregnant, she believes that the child was conceived by an angel. Peter befriends the pregnant Letha and the two fall in love, which creates tension between him and Roman. However, the two want to protect Letha and decide to kill the werewolf themselves.
In an abandoned church, the sheriff's foster daughter, Christina, is revealed to be the unknown werewolf who murdered the girls, and she is killed by Roman's sister Shelley.
Letha does not survive the birth of her child and Peter, who is devastated, moves away with his mother. Roman is so influenced by Olivia that he commits suicide on his 18th birthday in order to become a full Upir, since a vampire can only arise through self-surrender. He also learns that he is the father of Letha's child.

In December 2011, it was reported that Netflix and Gaumont International Television were planning to produce a series called Hemlock Grove , which was officially ordered in March 2012. Eli Roth could be won as a producer . Nathan Barr composed the music.
The first leading roles went to Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård in March 2012 . Landon Liboiron followed in April in another leading role. The first season of the television series was realized with a budget of 45 million US dollars. Filming began on July 13, 2012 in Port Perry , Ontario , Canada . Other locations were Toronto and Hamilton .
In September 2014, the series was extended by Netflix by a third season, which also marks the end of the series.
