Floria Sigismondi

Floria Sigismondi (* 1965 in Pescara , Italy ) is an Italian-Canadian photographer and director . In addition to her art exhibitions , she is also known as a director of music videos for Christina Aguilera , David Bowie , Sheryl Crow , The Cure , Björk , Marilyn Manson , Muse and P! Nk , among others .

Life

Sigismondi's parents were opera singers and her family moved to Hamilton , Ontario , Canada when Floria Sigismondi was two years old. In her childhood she devoted herself to painting and drawing.

From 1987 she studied painting and illustration at the Ontario School of Art . When she took a photography course as part of her studies, she found a new obsession and completed her degree in photography.

She started her career as a fashion photographer. The production company Revolver Films invited her to direct music videos , and so she did so for a number of well-known singers and bands. She once described her very innovative, but also very frightening video works, in scenes, as “entropic underworlds, inhabited by tormented souls and almighty beings”.

Her photographs and sculptures have been exhibited in solo exhibitions in Hamilton and Toronto ( Canada ), New York ( USA ), Brescia ( Italy ), Gothenburg ( Sweden ), and London ( England ). Her photographs have been shown in numerous group exhibitions together with those of photographers such as Cindy Sherman and Joel-Peter Witkin .

Sigismondi lives in Toronto and New York .
