Amy Lynn Carlson (born July 7, 1968 in Glen Ellyn , Illinois ) is an American actress .

Life

She spent most of her childhood in the Chicago area . When she was in junior high school, she and her three siblings moved with their parents, Bob and Barbara, to Amman , Jordan , where they taught at an American school.

With her family, but also alone, she went backpacking across Europe . Because her parents were teachers, they could travel the United States each summer (the family has camped in every state except Alaska ). In 1994 she went to Rwanda to help rebuild the country.

Even during her school days, she demonstrated acting talent and took part in theater performances. After a sports injury, she devoted most of her time to the theater. Her biggest award to date was her nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award .

She has made guest appearances on series such as Law & Order , CSI: On the Trail of the Criminals , NYPD Blue , Navy CIS and Emergency Room .

Carlson lives in New York City with their two children and husband, Syd Butler , the bass player for the band Les Savy Fav . In addition to acting, she is also a partner in a music label.
