Anthony Armand Ferguson Padilla (born February 12, 1984 in Oxnard , California ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight .

He has been fighting there since winning The Ultimate Fighter Championship in 2011 . In June 2019, Nurmagomedow was ranked second in the UFC lightweight ranking, behind Khabib, and 12th in the UFC pound for pound ranking.

Childhood and youth

Although he was born in California, Ferguson grew up mainly in Muskegon , Michigan . He is of Mexican descent. However, his last name comes from his Scottish- American stepfather. Ferguson was enrolled as an athlete at Muskegon Catholic Central High School in American football , baseball, and wrestling . In wrestling, he won the 2002 college state championships.

After high school, Ferguson enrolled at Central Michigan University but went to Grand Valley State University . He also attended Muskegon Community College , where in 2006 he won the College Internal Wrestling Championship in his weight class.

After college, he moved to live with relatives in California and worked in marketing and sales, as well as a bartender. There he came into contact with the MMA scene and a little later decided to focus full-time on this sport.

Ferguson is married and has one son.

In March 2019, his wife applied for a ban on contact with the motive of providing her husband with psychological help after she believed he had changed his personality and saw paranoia . He, who also suffered from insomnia , was not violent towards her. UFC President Dana White said Tony Ferguson's personal problems prevented him from continuing to do MMA. In April 2019, she dropped the application. At the same time it was announced that Tony would be planning his next fight.
