Dana Frederick White Jr. (born July 28, 1969 in Manchester , Connecticut ) is an American entrepreneur and the current president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a mixed martial arts organization from the United States .

biography

Born in Manchester, Connecticut , White grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada as well as Boston, Massachusetts and Levant, Maine. He is an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox baseball team . During an often difficult youth, he frequently commuted between Las Vegas and Maine . He attended college in Boston for two years; but did not graduate. Then he initiated a boxing program for children from poorer metropolitan areas.

White has a background as an aerobics trainer. In 1992 he founded Dana White Enterprises, based in Las Vegas. He ran aerobics classes at three different gyms in the greater Las Vegas area and began working as the manager of two MMA fighters Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell .

While serving as a manager, White learned that the Semaphore Entertainment Group, which was then owned by the UFC, was looking for a buyer for the UFC. White contacted Lorenzo Fertitta, a teenage friend who served as the executive director of Station Casinos and a former commissioner for the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Within a month, Lorenzo Fertitta and his older brother Frank bought the UFC and installed White as its president. White currently owns a 10% stake in Zuffa LLC , which was formed to manage the UFC.

White and his wife Anne have two sons and a daughter.
