Mahir Oral (born May 23, 1980 in Hamburg ) is a former German boxer of Turkish descent.

Amateur career

The boxing amateur of TuS Finkenwerder started boxing at the age of 13, his trainer was Mecit Çetinkaya. He fought his first fight in February 1994, his last in June 1999. He was four-time Hamburg champion, four-time North German champion, as well as silver and bronze medalist at German youth championships. Since 1998 he has boxed in the German national youth team.

After 78 amateur fights, he switched to the professional camp.

Professional career

He became a middleweight professional in Hamburg-Finkenwerder in 2000 and won his first seven fights. Then he boxed in a row in 2003 against a debutant, a draw against the Armenian Alexander Avdijan and lost in 2004 against the Belarusian Malik Dziarra . The fight against Awdijan took place in his adopted home Nuremberg , the fight against Dziarra in his adopted home Magdeburg , both were super middleweights .

In his further boxing career he initially had difficulties with average boxers like the French Karagoz (record 10-7-3), whom he was only able to defeat wafer-thinly in 2005; then came better opponents. Here stand out the balance sheets of the Armenian Arsen Khachatrian (28-1), whom he scored with a broken hand in Hamburg in 2006, the southpaw Dirk Dzemski (27-1), whom he knocked out in the first round (but he was himself on Boden) and won the so-called "EU title", and the Italian Domenico Spada (22-0), whom he narrowly beat on points in 2007 and won the WBC Intercontinental title. Against Alexander Sipos he won the "Interim European Boxing Association Middleweight Title" in Spain in 2008. In the same year he won the "WBC Mediterranean Middleweight Title" against the same opponent.

On June 27, 2009 Oral got the chance for the IBF world title from Arthur Abraham . After downpours in various rounds, Orals Corner threw in the towel in the tenth round. He won his fifth title in 2010 against Juan Camilo Novoa with the "WBA International Middleweight Title". On October 30, 2010 he lost another world championship fight on points against Sebastian Sylvester .

After a herniated disc in his cervical vertebra, he had to stop in a fight during the break for the second round in 2012 because he suffered from paralysis. So he had to end his career.

From the end of 2011 to 2014 he worked for a non-profit organization, violence prevention in schools.

Today he works as a trainer with professional boxers.
