Christian Giantomassi (born April 22, 1973 in Badia Polesine ) is a former Italian boxer and lightweight Olympic participant from 1996.

Career

Christian Giantomassi was Italian light welterweight champion in 1994 and also won the silver medal at the multinationals tournament in Liverpool in this weight class ; after victories against Sean Barrett, Jamie Pagendam and Erik Jensen, he only lost in the final against Peter Richardson . He then continued boxing in the lightweight. At the 1995 World Championships in Berlin , he defeated the Uzbek Sadir Tashmatow and the Turkish Baba Nedim, before he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the Cuban Pablo Rojas in fifth place.

In 1996 he won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Vejle . After a bye, he had beaten Ricardo Gomes of Portugal and Octavian Tsicu of Moldova before he was eliminated in the semifinals against Tonscho Tontschew from Bulgaria. He also started at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , but lost his first fight just against the Kyrgyz Sergei Kopenkin (11:12).

1997 still followed his victory at Trofeo Italia, when he defeated Mariusz Cendrowski in the final of the light welterweight division .

From 1997 to 2000 he played 15 professional fights with 13 wins and 2 losses. In September 1999 he won the Italian championship by knocking out Youssef Belhamra in the second round.
