Selim Paliani (born April 5, 1976 ) is a former Turkish boxer of Georgian origin in the lightweight . He is the younger brother of the boxer Ramaz Paliani .

Career

Selim Paliani, who is around 1.74 m tall, came to Turkey with his brother in the 1990s.

At the 1999 World Championships in Houston , he failed in the light welterweight preliminary round against Ukrainian Vyacheslav Sentschenko 4-8.

In May 2000 he won a bronze medal in the lightweight at the European Championships in Tampere , Finland. After victories against Martin Halaš from the Czech Republic (5: 0) and Jean-François Farahsmane from France (8: 3), he was only eliminated in the semifinals against the Russian Alexander Maletin (5:10).

In September 2000 he started at the Olympic Games in Sydney , beat the French Abdel Jebahi 14: 5 on points in the preliminary round and made it to the round of 16. There he would have met the American David Jackson, who had defeated the Tunisian Naoufel Ben Rabah in the preliminary round . However, Jackson was disqualified before the fight against Paliani because he had exceeded the lightweight limit in the weigh-in. Thus Paliani moved into the quarter-finals without a fight, where he met the Russian Alexander Maletin again. However, he was subject to this prematurely and was eliminated in 7th place. Maletin failed in the next fight against the Cuban Mario Kindelán and won bronze.

Also at the World Championships 2001 in Belfast , he met Maletin in the preliminary round and lost to him prematurely.
