Terrance Cauthen

Terrance Davin Cauthen (born May 14, 1976 in Trenton , New Jersey ) is a retired American boxer and bronze medalist at the 1996 Olympic Games lightweight .

Boxing career

Terrance Cauthen started boxing at the age of nine. He won the National Junior Olympiads in 1992 and a bronze medal at the National Golden Gloves in 1993 . In 1994 he was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the Goodwill Games in Saint Petersburg and lost an international match against Marco Rudolph . However, he then rose to the US lightweight elite.

He won the gold medal at the US Championships in 1995, the national Olympic qualification in Oakland in 1996 and the 1996 Olympic Box-offs in Augusta . In May and June 1996 he also won two international matches against Kay Huste and Alexander Maletin . He then took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and won a bronze medal in the lightweight. He had defeated Muhammadqodir Abdullayev from Uzbekistan, the vice-world champion Tümentsetsegiin Üitümen from Mongolia and the Asian champion Pongsith Wiangwiset from Thailand before he was eliminated in the semi-finals against Tontscho Tontschew from Bulgaria.

Then the approximately 1.75 m tall southpaw switched to the professional camp and played 45 fights in the USA, Canada and Great Britain, of which he won 36 and lost 8. He won the North American championship titles of the NABF and WBA light welterweight, as well as the US championship and the IBU world championship light middleweight. In the 2006 World Cup fight, he beat Nurhan Süleymanoğlu unanimously on points. Two other opponents of his career were Sechew Powell and Paul Williams .

In 2012 he ended his boxing career.
