Dejan Zlatičanin (born April 24, 1984 in Titograd , Yugoslavia ) is a Montenegrin professional boxer and former WBC lightweight world champion . He is the first world boxing champion in the sports history of Montenegro.

Career

As an amateur, Zlatičanin won international tournaments in Albania, Bosnia and Serbia. He participated in the 2001 European Junior Championships in Sarajevo and the 2002 Junior World Championships in Santiago de Cuba , as well as the 2003 World Cup in Bangkok , the 2004 European Championship in Pula , the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería and the 2006 European Championship in Plovdiv (5th place) . When Yugoslavia fell apart, he initially fought for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, later for the Confederation of Serbia and Montenegro, and finally for the Republic of Montenegro.

In May 2008 he made his debut as a professional in Budva when he prematurely won against the experienced Bulgarian Vladimir Borov (16-45). He was also able to win ten further development battles in Montenegro, Bosnia and Serbia, nine of them prematurely.

In February 2011 he won the championship title of the Mediterranean region of the world association WBC after he had defeated the Spaniard Felix Lora (12-6) unanimously over twelve rounds. He then defended the title against the Spaniard Hoang Nguyen (25-5) by knockout in the fifth round. In November 2011 he defeated the South African Godfrey Nzimande (23-3) unanimously over twelve rounds and thus won the WBC's international championship. He was able to defend this against Bachrom Pajosow (20-1) and Petr Petrow (32-3), and he also won two non-title fights against Vasile Herteg (19-7) and Asan Juseinow (11-5).

On June 27, 2014 he denied another title defense in Glasgow and surprisingly beat former two-time WBO world champion Ricky Burns (36-3) on points. In June 2015, he beat Ivan Redkach (18-0) early in the fourth round.

On June 11, 2016, he won the vacant WBC world title with a TKo win in the third round against Franklin Mamani (21-2). He finally lost the world title on January 28, 2017 when he was knocked out by Miguel Ángel García (35-0). In June 2018 he also lost prematurely to Roberto Ramirez (17-2).
