The Pyralinae are a subfamily of the borer (Pyralidae). About 900 species are currently known, 13 of which are found in Central Europe . So far 53 species have been identified in Europe.

features

The moths reach wingspans of about 20 to 40 millimeters. The typical snout of the moth can also be receded in some forms (e.g. genus Aglossa ). The antennae of the males are usually double-combed (bipectinate). The web that is created by the caterpillars is usually tubular.

Way of life

Most of the species are stored in a variety of dried plant products. Few other specialists are known, e.g. B. a species whose caterpillar lives in bat droppings; the caterpillars of other species eat leaves.
