Darley's Gregorio Pérez Ballesta (born September 14, 1983 in San Pedro de Urabá , Departamento de Antioquia ) is a Colombian professional boxer and former world champion of the WBA lightweight.

Boxing career

Darleys Pérez boxed as an amateur lightweight and contested 235 fights with 220 wins. He became Colombian champion six times, won the gold medal at the South American Games in Argentina in 2006 and the gold medal at the Pan American Championships in Ecuador in 2008 . He beat it in the finals Éverton Lopes and Yordenis Ugás .

He also took part in the 2007 World Championships in Chicago and reached fifth place after he was eliminated from North Korea in the quarterfinals against Kim Song-guk . Another fifth place he reached at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , when he lost in the quarterfinals to the Russian Alexei Tishchenko .

From 2009 Pérez boxed in the professional camp and won 28 fights in a row in Colombia and the USA, 19 of them prematurely. On June 8, 2013 he lost in Montreal on points against the undefeated Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa and suffered the first defeat of his professional career. For this he won the interime WBA lightweight world championship on June 28, 2014 by winning points against the undefeated Argenis Lopez. In October 2014 he defeated Jaider Parra by knockout in the sixth round and in January 2015 Jonathan Maicelo on points.

On April 9, 2015, Pérez was named the new regular world champion of the WBA, after the world federation had stripped the previous world champion Richard Abril of the title because of two undisputed title defenses. His first title defense against Anthony Crolla in July 2015 ended in a draw. He then lost the rematch in November 2015 by knockout in the fifth round.

Against the undefeated Maurice Hooker, he reached another draw in November 2016. In April 2017, he was defeated in a WBA title eliminator against Luke Campbell . In June 2018 he lost to the Russian Maxim Dadaschew in the fight for the titles USBA and NABF .
