Anthony Crolla (* 16th November 1986 in Manchester , England ) is a British professional boxer in the lightweight and former WBA world champion.

Professional career

Anthony Crolla was the 2005 English Lightweight Champion in the Amateurs and made his professional debut on October 14, 2006. In 2010 he won the English Super Featherweight Championship and in 2011 the British Lightweight Championship, which he defended against Willie Limond. In 2012 he lost to Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes, the latter he was already defeated in 2009 in an encounter, but still won the English championship in the lightweight against Kieran Farrell.

After a tie in the rematch against Derry Mathews, he secured the WBO intercontinental championship in June 2013 by beating Gavin Rees on points. He then defended the title against Stephen Foster, John Murray and Gamaliel Diaz .

On July 18, 2015, he boxed for the first time for the WBA lightweight world title against Darleys Pérez , the fight ended in a draw. He finally won the rematch and thus the world title on November 21, 2015 with a classic knockout in round 5. In May 2016, he defended his title with a knockout in the seventh round against Ismael Barroso.

On September 24, 2016, he lost the title by losing points to Jorge Linares and also lost the rematch in March 2017. In October 2017, he won against Ricky Burns .
