geography
The county is almost in the extreme northwest of Minnesota on the border with Canada . It has an area of 4247 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water. In the northeast, the county has a share of the Lake of the Woods .

history
Roseau County was formed on February 28, 1894 from parts of Beltrami County and Kittson County. It was named after the Roseau Lake and the Roseau River .
