geography
The county is located in southern Minnesota and about 45 km from Iowa . It has an area of 1121 square kilometers, of which 25 square kilometers are water. From southeast to northwest the county is traversed by the Le Sueur River , which is part of the Mississippi catchment area via the Blue Earth River and the Minnesota River . history
Waseca County was formed on February 27, 1857 from parts of Steele County. It was named after an expression from the Sioux language.
