The Itasca State Park is the oldest state park in the US state of Minnesota and forms the watershed between the north and in the Gulf of Mexico flowing waters. In 1965, the Itasca Natural Area was registered in the park as a National Natural Landmark .
Itasca State Park is 130 km² in size and contains over 100 lakes. In the park, the Mississippi River rises from Lake Itasca . The lake is 447 m above sea level. NN.
The Itasca was first sighted by whites on July 13, 1832 and recognized as the source of the Mississippi.
