The Temperance River State Park is a 20.2 km² large State Park . It is bordered to the east by Lake Superior in the US state of Minnesota and north of Schroeder in Cook County . The park has an annual average of around 284,000 visitors.
As early as the 1830s, the first settlers of European origin settled in the area of the Temperance River ; the river was not named until 1864 by the state surveyor Thomas Clark .
The Temperance River State Park became an official state park in 1957.
The vegetation is as natural today as it was before the settlement of this region. The forests consist mainly of paper birch , yellow birch , spruce , cedar and fir .
The Superior Hiking Trail leads along the Temperance River to Carlton Peak outside and connects the area with 7 other state parks on the riverside region.
In the park you can see outcrops of molten basalt lava around a billion years old as well as anorthosite rocks.
