Oakport is a settlement on community-free area in Clay County in the northwest of the US -amerikanischen state of Minnesota . For statistical purposes, the place has been combined to form a census-designated place (CDP) . In 2010 Oakport had 1,387 residents.

Oakport is on the east bank of the Red River of the North , which forms the border with North Dakota . The place, which forms the center of Oakport Township , lies at 46 ° 55'55 "north latitude, 96 ° 46'44" west longitude and extends over 7.7 km².

Oakport neighbors are Moorhead on the southern outskirts and Fargo in North Dakota on the opposite bank of the Red River.

US Highway 75 , which runs in north-south direction, forms the eastern outskirts of Oakport. Minnesota State Route 22 is the main road through the town and leads over a bridge over the Red River in a westerly direction to Fargo Airport. All other roads are subordinate and partly unpaved roads as well as inner-city connecting roads.

The nearest airports are Hector International Airport in Fargo (4.1 km southwest), Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (357 km north) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (406 km southeast).
