Albert Sydney Herlong junior (born February 14, 1909 in Manistee , Monroe County , Alabama , †  December 27, 1995 ) was an American politician . He represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Sydney Herlong moved to Marion County with his family in 1912 . He attended public schools in Sumter County and Lake County and graduated from high school in Leesburg . He then graduated from the University of Florida at Gainesville in 1930 . He was admitted to the bar in the same year and opened a practice in Leesburg. Herlong served as a district judge in Lake County between 1937 and 1949. He was then a public prosecutor in Leesburg from 1946 to 1948.

During World War II , he served as a captain in the United States Army reserves . In August 1941 he was appointed to the Judge Advocate General's Corps , but retired in 1942 due to physical ailments. He signed up for two terms with the Florida State Guard . After the war, he became president of the Florida State Baseball League . He carried out this activity between 1947 and 1948; then he went into politics.

Herlong was elected a Democrat in the 81st and subsequent nine Congresses. His term of office ran from January 3, 1949 to January 3, 1969. In 1968 he no longer ran for the 91st Congress , but resumed his practice as a lawyer. He then worked as a member of the SEC from 1969 to 1973. Albert Herlong died on December 27, 1995.
