Peter R. German

Peter R. Deutsch (born April 1, 1957 in New York City ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 2005 he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Peter Deutsch attended the Horace Mann School in New York City until 1975 and then Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania until 1979 . After a subsequent law degree at Yale University and his admission to the bar in 1982, he began working in his new profession in Broward County , Florida. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1981 and 1982 he directed the Medicare Information Program he founded in Broward County. From 1982 to 1993 he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives .

In the 1992 congressional elections , German was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created 20th  constituency of Florida , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1993. After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2005 . These were shaped by the events of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and the Iraq war .

In 2004, Peter Deutsch renounced a possible re-election to the US House of Representatives in favor of an unsuccessful candidacy for the US Senate . He already failed in his party's primary elections to Betty Castor , who in turn was defeated by Republican Mel Martínez .
