Michael Waltz (born January 31, 1974 in Boynton Beach , Florida ) is an American politician , former officer of the Green Berets and security expert.

He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in November 2018 . Waltz is a Republican and represents the 6th Congressional Constituency of Florida.

Life

Michael Waltz grew up in Jacksonville . He, his father, and his grandfather served in the U.S. Navy . Waltz attended the Virginia Military Institute . He was an active soldier for 21 years, most recently as a Green Beret (United States Army Special Forces Command (Airborne)) with combat missions in Afghanistan, among other places . He was an advisor to the George W. Bush administration and commentator for FOX News . Waltz is the founder of a security consultancy.

He is married and has a daughter.

politics

In the 2018 election , Waltz ran for the seat in the House of Representatives from Ron DeSantis , who was running for governor of Florida. In the Republican primary , he was elected with 42.4% of the vote against two other candidates. In the general election, he prevailed against the Democrat Nancy Soderberg with 56.3% of the vote. His term began on January 3, 2019. He is a member of the Armed Forces Committee.

After the fire in the Russian submarine Loscharik , Waltz alleged that Russia was attacking submarine cables .
