Curtis J. "Curt" Clawson (born September 28, 1959 in Tacoma , Washington ) is an American politician . Between June 2014 and January 3, 2017, he represented the state of Florida in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1978 Curt Clawson graduated from Batesville High School in Indiana , where he was a good basketball player . In the following years he continued his education at the University of Utah , Purdue University and Harvard University . Then he worked as a private businessman. To this day he is President of American National Can . Prior to that, he also worked for other companies in the 1980s and 1990s.

Politically, Clawson joined the Republican Party . After the resignation of Congressman Trey Radel , he was elected as his successor in the by-election in the 19th constituency of Florida with the support of the Tea Party Express , which is close to the Tea Party movement . After he had prevailed in the Republican primary before the State Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto , he achieved a share of the vote of 66.95 percent in the actual election. His rival candidate April Freeman from the Democratic Party came in at 29.32 percent. Clawson took up his new mandate on June 25, 2014. After being re-elected in the regular congressional elections in 2014 , he was able to take up a regular term on January 3, 2015, which runs until January 3, 2017. Since he was no longer a candidate in 2016, he is leaving the Congress at this point.
