Fred Allen Boyd Jr. (* 6. June 1945 in Valdosta , Georgia ) is an American Farmer , war veteran and politician of the Democratic Party . From 1997 to 2011 he was a member of the US House of Representatives for Florida .

biography

Allen Boyd was born in Valdosta to Margaret Elizabeth Finlayson and Fred Allen Boyd. He graduated from Florida State University . After completing his studies in 1969, he was First Lieutenant for the US Army in the Vietnam War .

Boyd was an MP in the Florida House of Representatives from 1989 to 1997 . In 1997 he won the seat of the United States House of Representatives with 64% of the vote. There he represented the second congressional district of Florida. He was the successor to Pete Peterson . In 1998 he was confirmed in office without an opponent. He was able to defend his mandate in the following elections (2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008). With only 41% of the vote, he was no longer elected to the House of Representatives in the 2010 elections. He was succeeded by the Republican Steve Southerland .

He was one of 81 Democratic MPs in the House of Representatives who voted for the Iraq war on October 10, 2002 .

Allen Boyd is married with three grown children (two sons and a daughter). On September 30, 2009, his wife filed for divorce. He lives in Monticello , where he is the fifth generation to work as a farmer.
