The memorial by name in the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden is a memorial for the Jewish victims of the Holocaust from Wiesbaden during the time of National Socialism .

During the pogrom night from 9./10. November 1938 the synagogue built in 1869 on Michelsberg was set on fire by the National Socialists. The building was so badly damaged that it was demolished in 1939. For a long time, there was insufficient public reminders of what was happening on site and in the course of the construction of the high bridge, the place was in danger of disappearing entirely from public view.

The Active Museum Spiegelgasse for German-Jewish History in Wiesbaden campaigned for the construction of a memorial for the murdered Wiesbaden Jews at the place where the synagogue of the Jewish community once stood.

After the high bridge was demolished in 2001, the opportunity was given to commemorate the victims of National Socialism in the authentic synagogue. In 2005, the state capital Wiesbaden launched an urban planning ideas competition with an implementation part to obtain drafts for the redesign of the “former synagogue / Michelsberg” area. The most important aim of the competition was to create a place to commemorate the Jews murdered and expelled during the National Socialist dictatorship.

On January 27, 2011, the nationwide day of remembrance for the victims of National Socialism , the memorial site commemorating the names of the Michelsberg was inaugurated after eight months of construction . With its seven-meter-high reinforced concrete walls, the monument makes the dimensions of the former synagogue visible at this point. In addition, the outlines of the synagogue are shown in the floor covering.

The names of all 1507 victims identified so far are engraved on stone slabs at eye level. The design of the memorial can be traced back to designs by the artist Valeria Sass and the architectural office Barbara Willecke.
