Dixfield is a town in Oxford County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there lived 2550 inhabitants in 1180 households on an area of 107.98 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Dixfield has a total area of 107.98 km², of which 106.89 km² is land and 1.09 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Dixfield is east of Oxford County and borders Franklin County . The Androscoggin River flows through the area of the town in an easterly direction. The surface of the area is hilly, the highest point is the 561 m high Colonel Holman Mountain to the west of Dixfield.

history
The grant for Dixfield was given by Massachusetts to Jonathan Holman and others. It also included other areas. At first the area was named Holmanstown . In the winter of 1793 Ezra Newton settled with his wife and sister in the area, which they left in the spring. Dixfield was settled permanently from 1795 and at that time the ownership of the Grant went to Elijah Dix from Boston. When the town was organized on June 21, 1803, it was named Dixfield after him .
The area had different names before it was organized as a town. It became Township No. 1, North of the Androscoggin River , Holman and Water's Township , Holman Grant , Holmanstown , Dixtown and Plantation No. 1 .
Part of Township No. 4 (later organized as Town Carthage) was added in 1822 but returned as early as 1827 when the takeover was revoked.

traffic
The US Highway 2 runs parallel to the Androscoggin River from the west and north later. The Maine State Route 142 leads from the north coming in Dixfield Village on the highway.
