Lovell is located in southwest Oxford County. history

The urban area lies in the traditional settlement area of ​​the Abenaki , who had their main town in Pequawket (today Fryeburg ). Pequawket was attacked during Dummer's War (1722-1727) on May 8, 1725 by Captain John Lovewell . Lovewell died in battle; the Abenaki fled and went to safety in Canada. Under the name New Suncook Plantation , the Massachusetts General Court gave the area to state employees and soldiers in 1774 in recognition of their services to the state. Settlement of the area began in 1777. Lovell was organized as a town on November 15, 1800 and named after Captain Lovewell.

The southeastern part of Lovell was organized as an independent Town Sweden in 1814.

Author Stephen King suffered a serious car accident when he was hit by a van while walking on Maine State Route 5 in 1999.

The Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library is located in Lovell . It was named after the long-time librarian who was very committed to the library. The library was founded in 1899.
