Lovell is a town in Oxford County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1140 inhabitants in 1227 households on an area of 124.03 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Lovell has a total area of 124.03 km², of which 111.76 km² is land and 12.28 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Lovell is located in southwest Oxford County. A large lake district of Kezar Lake stretches through the area of the town with Upper Bay in the north, Middle Bay in the center and Lower Bay in the south . Several smaller rivers run through the area. The surface of the area is hilly, the highest point is the 379 m high Sabattus Mountain .

history
The urban area lies in the traditional settlement area of the Abenaki , who had their main town in Pequawket (today Fryeburg ). Pequawket was attacked during Dummer's War (1722-1727) on May 8, 1725 by Captain John Lovewell . Lovewell died in battle; the Abenaki fled and went to safety in Canada. Under the name New Suncook Plantation , the Massachusetts General Court gave the area to state employees and soldiers in 1774 in recognition of their services to the state. Settlement of the area began in 1777. Lovell was organized as a town on November 15, 1800 and named after Captain Lovewell.
The southeastern part of Lovell was organized as an independent Town Sweden in 1814.
Author Stephen King suffered a serious car accident when he was hit by a van while walking on Maine State Route 5 in 1999.

Lovell does not have its own hospital or medical facility. The closest facilities are in Fryeburg, North Conway and Bridgton.
The Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library is located in Lovell . It was named after the long-time librarian who was very committed to the library. The library was founded in 1899.

Together with Brownfield, Denmark, Fryeburg, Sweden, Stoneham and Stow, Lovell is part of the Maine School Administrative District 72 .
