Hartford is a town in Oxford County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 1185 inhabitants in 723 households on an area of 116.76 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Hartford has a total area of 116.76 km², of which 113.62 km² are land and 3.13 km² consist of water .
Geographical location
Hartford is east of Oxford County and borders Androscoggin County . There are several lakes in the area of the town. Lake Anasagunticook is located in the north , Bunganock Pond in the center and Bear Pond in the south . The eastern branch of the Nezinscot River forms the western boundary of the town's area . The surface of the area is hilly, the highest point is the 357 m high Bear Mountain in the west of Hartford.

history
The area was settled by Hartford from 1788. The first settler in the area was Edmund Irish.
Hartford was organized as an independent town on June 13, 1798. Previously the area was registered as an East Butterfield Plantation. More land was added in 1807 from Plantation Number 1 and in 1834 from Chandler's Gore. Land was given to Canton in 1838, 1839 and 1850, and to Buckfield in 1856 and 1862.
Hartford was named after Hartford , Connecticut , which in turn was named after Hartford in England.
The former Portland and Rumford Falls Railway reached Hartford in 1868. Hartford is on the Rumford Junction – Kennebago railway line , but the section has been closed.
