Oxford is a town in Oxford County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 4110 inhabitants in 2170 households on an area of 108.47 km².

According to the United States Census Bureau , Oxford has a total area of 108.47 km², of which 100.28 km² is land and 8.18 km² consists of water .
Geographical location
Oxford is in the southeast of Oxford County and borders Androscoggin County to the east . The Little Androscoggin River flows through the area of the town in a southerly direction. To the southwest is Thompson Lake , to the east of it Whitney Pond and Hogan Pond . Marshall Pond borders in the west . The surface of the area is slightly hilly, the highest point is the 255 m high Horse Hill .

history
Oxford belonged to Hebron until 1829 and was organized as an independent town on February 27th. Settlement by European settlers started after the War of Independence .
Parts of Otisfield were added in 1830 and Paris in 1838.

Oxford is home to the Oxford Plains Speedway and Oxford Plains Dragway . Car races take place here regularly.
Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The Maine State Route 121 passes through the southeastern part of the Town, partly along the north bank of the Thompson Lakes. The Maine State Route 26 runs parallel to the Little Androscoggin River in north-south direction. The Oxford Plains Speedway and Oxford County Regional Airport are located on Route 26 .
Freight traffic is handled on the Portland – Island Pond railway line .
Public facilities
There are no hospitals or medical facilities in Oxford. The closest are in Bridgeton, Norway, South Paris and Auburn.
In Oxford, the Freeland Holmes Library is on Pleasant Street. It has existed since 1873 and goes back to a legacy of Freeland Holmes, an Oxford citizen who worked as a businessman in San Francisco.
