Roxbury was initially called Township No. 7 Abbot's Purchase (T7 AP) and was organized as Town on March 17, 1835. Settlement of the area began around 1809. Some of the early settlers were from Roxbury, Massachusetts. The timber industry and agriculture form the economic basis for the residents.
