The area of ​​today's Turner was first settled from around 1690 and from June 18, 1768 initially under the name Sylvester Canada , but was after a grant to the residents (an official transfer of ownership of the land to a group of buyers, in this case the already residents Residents) renamed Sylvester Plantation on September 14, 1779 . The settlement of the land went on rapidly; the population for 1778 was 119 people, for 1780 130 residents were documented. As early as July 7, 1786, the administrative form of a plantation , a simplified administration of state territory, was transferred to the full form of the town . At the same time, the settlement, which was previously named after one of its first settlers, was renamed Turner . It was named after the Reverent Charles Turner, who was also one of the original settlers.

Turner was part of Oxford County until 1854, when it became part of Androscoggin County.
