Turner is a town in Androscoggin County in the state of Maine in the United States . In 2010 there were 5734 inhabitants in 2481 households on an area of 162.4 km².

Geographical location
The area of the Town Turner is located in the lake-rich delta of the Androscoggin River east of Turner in a hilly, heavily forested area. In the south of the town the Nezinscot River flows , which meanders strongly in the west of the area and forms a large wetland. The highest peaks of the town are hills: Teague Hill (249 m), General Turner Hill (196 m), and Ricker Hill (196 m).

history
The area of today's Turner was first settled from around 1690 and from June 18, 1768 initially under the name Sylvester Canada , but was after a grant to the residents (an official transfer of ownership of the land to a group of buyers, in this case the already residents Residents) renamed Sylvester Plantation on September 14, 1779 . The settlement of the land went on rapidly; the population for 1778 was 119 people, for 1780 130 residents were documented. As early as July 7, 1786, the administrative form of a plantation , a simplified administration of state territory, was transferred to the full form of the town . At the same time, the settlement, which was previously named after one of its first settlers, was renamed Turner . It was named after the Reverent Charles Turner, who was also one of the original settlers.
Turner was part of Oxford County until 1854, when it became part of Androscoggin County.
