Franklin M. Drew

Franklin M. Drew (born July 19, 1837 in Turner , Maine , † 1925 ) was an American politician and officer in the Civil War , who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1868 to 1871 .

Life

Franklin M. Drew was born in Turner. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1858. He studied law at Bradbury, Merrill & Meserve in Augusta and was admitted to the Kennebec County bar on April 3, 1861 . He was Assistant Clerk of the Maine House of Representatives from 1860 to 1861 . In June 1861 he opened a law firm in Presque Isle . He was appointed district attorney in August of the same year, but he turned it down and opted for military service.

He was Captain of the 15th Regiment Maine Volunteers from October 22, 1861 to September 10, 1862, after which he was promoted to major and left after three years on January 26, 1865 the service with the rank of Colonel.

After his military service, he opened a law firm in Brunswick and was from 1886 to 1887 Clerk of the House of Representatives from Maine. In 1868 he was elected Secretary of State. He held this office until 1871. from 1872 to 1875 he was US Pension Agent in Augusta.

In 1878 he formed a partnership with MT Ludden in Lewiston until his death in 1882, after which he took on LG Roberts as a partner in 1891. He was elected Androscoggin County's Probate Court Judge in 1888.

Franklin M. Drew was married to Araminta B Woodman Drew (1837-1911). The couple had a son. He died in 1925, his grave is in Pine Grove Cemetery in Brunswick.
