Paul A. MacDonald

Paul A. MacDonald (born May 5, 1911 in Jefferson , Maine , † April 27, 2006 , Woolwich , Maine) was an American lawyer and politician who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1961 to 1964 .

Life

Paul A. MacDonald was born to a farmer in Jefferson and attended Augusta High School . He then studied at Suffolk University Law School in Boston . He graduated in 1937.

After returning to Maine, he practiced law and was elected clerk to the Legal Committee. In 1944 he was appointed Deputy Secretary of State, a position he held until 1960 when he was elected Secretary of State.

After the end of his tenure as Secretary of State, he was appointed in 1964 by Governor John Reed as a judge in the newly created 6th District Court. He worked there for 14 years until he retired in 1978, then for another 14 years as an active retired judge. Mac Donald was a member of the Republican Party .

MacDonald was married and had a son and a daughter. He died in Woolwich on April 27, 2006. His grave is in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bath, Maine.
