William Diamond

William Bill Diamond (born February 19, 1945 in Gardiner , Maine ) is an American teacher and politician who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1989 to 1996 .

Life

William Diamond was born in Gardiner, Maine in 1945. He received his BS in 1968 from Gorham State Teachers College and his MS in Administration / Education in 1971 from the University of Southern Maine . He earned an MA each in 1972 from the University of Maine , 1994 from the University of Southern Maine and post-MA in 1998 from the University of New England .

Diamond is a member of the Democratic Party . From 1976 to 1982 he was an MP in the Maine House of Representatives . From 1982 to 1986 he was a member of the Maine Senate . In 1988 he ran for Secretary of State and held that office from 1989 to 1996. He has been a member of the Maine Senate again since 2004.

As a teacher and principal, Diamond was employed at schools in Windham from 1968 to 1986 and, in 1973, principal at Manchester Elementary School. He was School Superintendent in Raymond in 1986. He works for the Élan School as Director of Governmental Relations, and since 1980 he has also been running a small business.

William Diamond is married and has two daughters.
