Asaph Nichols
Asaph R. Nichols (born February 25, 1797 in Gardner , Massachusetts , † May 10, 1860 in Augusta , Maine) was an American lawyer and politician who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1835 to 1837 and again in 1839 .
Life
Asaph R. Nichols was born in Gardner to Kendall Nichols and Deborah Partridge.
He was Secretary of State of Maine from 1835 to 1837 and again in 1839 and Postmaster of Augusta from 1844 to 1849. He was also the clerk of the Supreme Court.
In 1822 he married Lucy Lambard (1804-1884). The couple had seven children, four sons and three daughters. Her son Henry L. Nichols was also a politician.
Asaph Nichols died on May 10, 1860 in Augusta, his grave is in Mount Vernon Cemetery in Augusta , Maine.
