Edward Russell (politician)

Edward Russell (born August 31, 1782 in Portland , Maine , † November 29, 1835 in North Yarmouth , Maine) was an American bank manager and politician who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1829 to 1830 .

Life

Edward Russel was the son of Dr. Edward Russel and Hanne Clark Russel. He was a justice of the peace and from 1815 represented the town of North Yarmouth in the General Court for several years. Since April 1815 he was an overseer of Bowdoin College . He was a Brigade General of the Militia and Director of the US Branch Bank.

From 1829 to 1830 he was Secretary of State of Maine. For several years he was the corresponding secretary of the Historical Society after its establishment.

In 1812 he married Lucy Stevens (1787-1870). The couple had three children.

Edward Russell died in North Yarmouth on November 29, 1835. It is not known where his grave is located.
