Dan Gwadosky

Dan A. Gwadosky (born February 16, 1954 in Waterville , Maine , † August 10, 2011 in Augusta , Maine) was an American politician who was Secretary of State of Maine from 1997 to 2004 .

Life

Dan A. Gwadosky was born in Waterville, Maine in 1954 to Joseph Gwadosky and Pauline Elizabeth Moore. He grew up in Fairfield , Maine and attended Lawrence High School. He earned his bachelor's and master's degree from Thomas College, from which he also received an honorary doctorate.

Gwadosky was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1978, at the age of 23, he was elected to the Maine House of Representatives. He was elected Assistant to the Majority Leader in 1986 and Majority Leader of the House in 1988. He chaired the Legislative Council in 1992 and was elected Speaker of the House in 1994. He was elected Secretary of State in 1997 and served from 1997 to 2004. He was president of the National Association of Secretaries of State from 2002 to 2003. He was director of the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations for six years and was chairman of the National Alcoholic Beverage Control Association .

Dan Gwadosky was married to Cheryl Norton and the couple had two daughters. He died of pancreatic cancer on August 10, 2011 at the age of 57 in Augusta, Maine.
