William B. Hartwell

William B. Hartwell (born November 13, 1814 in Augusta , Maine , † July 12, 1849 in front of Rio de Janeiro ) was an American paymaster of the US Navy and politician , who was Secretary of State of Maine in 1845 .

Life

William Brooks Hartwell was born to John H. Hartwell (1787-1859) and Eliza Brooks Hartwell (1789-1864) in Augusta.

Hartwell attended Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1834. In 1845 he was a member of the Democratic Party Secretary of State of Maine. He was then paymaster of the US Navy and died on July 12, 1849 at sea off Rio de Janeiro.

Johnson married Elizabeth Johnson Hartwell (1819-1888). The couple had four children.

William B. Hartwell died at sea on July 12, 1849, two days off Rio de Janeiro. His grave is in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Augusta.
