Sebastian Prignitz

Sebastian Prignitz (born May 6, 1980 in Oldenburg ) is a German classical archaeologist , epigraphist and papyrologist .

Sebastian Prignitz attended elementary school and the old grammar school in Oldenburg from 1986 to 1999 and studied classical archeology , Greek studies and art history at the Humboldt University in Berlin from the winter semester 2000/01 to 2006 . Already in 2001 he took part in his first teaching excavation as a student in Xanten , in 2003 in excavations on the Athens Kerameikos , from 2004 to 2010 in Kalapodi and from 2004 to 2006 in Miletus . He initially completed his studies with a master's degree . From 2002 to 2006 he worked as a student assistant at the Archaeological Institute ( Winckelmann Institute ) at Humboldt University. This was followed by a doctoral degree with an epigraphic focus at Humboldt University from 2006 to 2010. The subject of the dissertation was the corpus of the building inscriptions of Epidaurus . The early settlements . The work was recognized with the 2011/12 travel grant from the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute . From December 2008, Prignitz was a research assistant for the epigraphic lemmas of the project "Der Neue Overbeck" of the German Research Foundation , and since September 2010 he had a contract for the Inscriptiones Graecae of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences . From May to July 2011, a campaign to include the inscriptions led him to Olympia . From October 2012 to December 2015 he was a research fellow at Inscriptiones Graecae, and in 2014 he was a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton . Since January 2016 he has been project manager at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

Prignitz's research focuses on artist inscriptions, the architectural inscriptions of Epidauros as well as inscriptions from Kalapodi, Olympia and the Argolis , Corinth region as well as Pergamene art and philosophy. A new edition of the Parthenon inventories is in preparation.
