Günter Poethke

Günter Poethke (born September 8, 1939 in Leipzig ) is a German papyrologist .

Günter Poethke studied Classical Philology and Ancient History at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1957 to 1962 . His teachers there included Richard Hauschild , Friedmar Kühnert , Friedrich Slotty and Friedrich Zucker . In 1962 he became a research associate, and in 1977 curator at the Egyptian Museum and the papyrus collection of the State Museums in Berlin . In 1968 Poethke received his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin with the thesis Epimerismos. Considerations on the compulsory lease in Egypt during the principle time and in 1988 the habilitation with the work Greek papyrus documents from the late Roman and Byzantine times from Hermupolis Magna . There Poethke became a private lecturer in 1995 and an adjunct professor in 1999. He is mainly concerned with Greek papyrology. Poethke is a member of the Association Internationale de Papyrologues and co-editor of the journal Archiv für Papyrusforschung .
