Friedmar Kühnert
Friedmar Kühnert (born November 16, 1924 in Drei 30 , † September 18, 2002 in Jena ) was a German classical philologist .
Life and accomplishments
Friedmar Kühnert studied at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , with which he was to be associated all his life. He received his doctorate there in 1951 with the work The tendency in Quintilians Institutio oratoria , the habilitation took place in 1957 with the work General Education and Specialized Education in Antiquity . In 1958 he became a university lecturer, in 1961 a professor with a teaching assignment and in 1963 a professor with a full teaching assignment, later professor with a chair. From 1961 Kühnert was also director of the Institute for Antiquity. He became a member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences in 1974. In 1981 he retired. His successor as director of the institute was the archaeologist Ernst Kluwe . Kühnert was married to Barbara Zuchold for the second time .
Kühnert made a particular contribution to the organization and maintenance of the Institute for Classical Studies , since the university reform in 1969, the Institute for Classical Studies at Jena University, and was seen as a largely honest personality. Scientifically, he was primarily concerned with education in the ancient world , as a Latinist especially in the Roman Empire . He worked on major projects in GDR antiquity such as the Lexicon of Antiquity or the Cultural History of Antiquity .
