Samuel P. Morrill

Samuel Plummer Morrill (born February 11, 1816 in Chesterville , Massachusetts , †  August 4, 1892 there ) was an American politician . Between 1869 and 1871 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in what is now Maine, Samuel Morrill attended public schools in his home country and then Farmington Academy in Maine. After a subsequent study of theology and his ordination as a clergyman, he worked in Farmington between 1848 and 1853 in this profession. Between 1857 and 1867, Morrill was a land registrar in Franklin County .

Politically, Morrill was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1868 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Maine . There he took over from Sidney Perham on March 4, 1869 . Since he was no longer nominated by his party for the elections of 1870, Morrill could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1871 .

After his tenure in the House of Representatives ended, Morrill became a clergyman again. Between 1877 and 1879 he practiced this profession in East Dixfield . In 1885 he moved to Vienna in Maine, where he worked as a clergyman until 1886. Then he retired. Samuel Morrill died on August 4, 1892 in his birthplace Chesterville and was buried there.
