E. Wilder Farley
Ephraim Wilder Farley (born August 29, 1817 in Newcastle , Massachusetts , † April 3, 1880 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Wilder Farley was born in Newcastle in 1817, which at the time still belonged to Massachusetts and has been part of the then newly created state of Maine since 1820. He attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1836 Bowdoin College in Brunswick . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began practicing this profession in Newcastle.
Politically, Farley was a member of the Whig Party . In 1843 and again between 1851 and 1853 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Maine . In 1852 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Maine , where he succeeded Robert Goodenow on March 4, 1853 . Since he lost to Ebenezer Knowlton in the following elections in 1854 , he was only able to complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1855 . This was determined by the discussions leading up to the civil war .
In 1856 Farley became a member of the Maine Senate . Then he withdrew from politics. He died on April 3, 1880 in his native Newcastle.
