Ebenezer Knowlton

Ebenezer Knowlton (born December 6, 1815 in Pittsfield , Merrimack County , New Hampshire , †  September 10, 1874 in South Montville , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1825, Ebenezer Knowlton moved with his parents to South Montville, Maine. There he attended public schools. After studying theology, he became a clergyman. At the same time, Knowlton was also involved in politics. Between 1844 and 1850 he was an MP in the Maine House of Representatives . In 1846 he served as its president . In the 1850s he was a member of the short-lived Opposition Party .

In 1854, Knowlton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC as their candidate in the third constituency of Maine . There he took over from E. Wilder Farley on March 4, 1855 . Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was determined by the conflicts leading up to the civil war .

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives, Ebenezer Knowlton withdrew from politics. In the following years he worked again as a clergyman. He died on September 10, 1874 in South Montville and was buried there.
