Louis B. Goodall
Louis Bertrand Goodall (born September 23, 1851 in Winchester , Cheshire County , New Hampshire , † June 26, 1935 in Sanford , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .
Career
As a toddler, Louis Goodall moved with his parents to Troy in 1852 , where he attended public schools. In the years 1862 and 1863 he attended in Thompson ( Connecticut and private schools). He then studied at the Vermont Episcopal Institute in Burlington ( Vermont ) until 1866 . After another private school in England , Goodall finished his education in 1870 at the Kimball Union Academy in Meridian, New Hampshire. He then joined his father's company in Sanford.
From 1874 Louis Goodall was active in the wool processing industry. He was also involved in the railroad business. In the further course he founded the clothing factory Goodall Worsted Co. Goodall was President of the Sanford National Bank from 1896 . In 1904, he led the Maine State delegation to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition , the World's Fair held in St. Louis to mark the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase . In 1909 Goodall was a member of the advisory board to Governor Bert Fernald .
Politically, Goodall was a member of the Republican Party . In 1916 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Maine . There he took over from Asher Hinds on March 4, 1917 . After re-election in 1918, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1921 . From 1919 he was chairman of the second electoral committee ( Committee on Elections No. 2 ). His first term in the House of Representatives was by the events of World War determined. In addition, the 18th and 19th amendments were discussed and passed in Congress during Goodall's time . It was about the alcohol ban and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage .
In 1920 Goodall declined to run again. He returned to Sanford, where he returned to his business interests. He died there on June 26, 1935.
