George W. Ladd

George Washington Ladd (born September 28, 1818 in Augusta , Massachusetts , †  January 30, 1892 in Bangor , Maine ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1883 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in present-day Maine, George Ladd attended public schools in his homeland and then Kents Hill Seminary . He then worked in various areas of business in Bangor. Among other things, he was a chemist as well as a timber, commission and grocery dealer. In addition, he worked in the railway industry.

Politically, Ladd joined the short-lived Greenback Party in the 1870s . In the congressional election of 1878, he was elected as their candidate in the fourth constituency of Maine to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he succeeded Llewellyn Powers on March 4, 1879 . After re-election in 1880, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1883 . From 1879 to 1881 he was chairman of the Ministry of Post's Expenditures Control Committee.

In the elections of 1882 he was not confirmed. Then he retired from politics. George Ladd died on January 30, 1892 in Bangor and was buried there.
