Clifford Guy McIntire (born May 4, 1908 in Perham , Aroostook County , Maine , †  October 1, 1974 in Bangor , Maine) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1965 he represented the state of Maine in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clifford McIntire attended his home public schools and then Washburn High School . He then studied agriculture until 1930 at the University of Maine . Between 1930 and 1952 he worked as a farmer in Perham. From 1933 to 1947 he also served as administrator of the Bank for farmers ( Farm Credit Administration ) in Springfield ( Massachusetts ). From 1947 to 1951, McIntire was the assistant manager of Maine Potato Growers, Inc. , which marketed potatoes.

Politically, McIntire was a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Congressman Frank Fellows in 1951, he was elected in the third constituency of Maine as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took up his new mandate on October 22, 1951. After a few re-elections, he was able to represent his district in Congress until it was dissolved on January 3, 1963 . Then he ran in the 1962 elections in the second district. After his election victory, he took over on January 3, 1963 the seat of MPs previously held by Stanley R. Tupper . In 1964 he renounced another candidacy for the House of Representatives. During his time as a parliamentarian, the Korean War took place and the Vietnam War began . The 23rd and 24th amendments to the Constitution were discussed and passed in Congress.

In 1964, McIntire ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . He then served as a director at the American Farm Bureau Federation before serving on a rural development commission set up by President Richard Nixon from 1969 to 1970 . Shortly before his death in 1974, he was appointed to the newly created United States Railway Association by President Gerald Ford . Clifford McIntire died on October 1, 1974 in Bangor.
